iBall Splendo coming in July – $140 PC-on-a-stick

Microsoft India and iBall announced iBall Splendo, a tiny device, that looks a lot like a USB memory stick and can be plugged in to the TV via HDMI to turn it into a fully functional computer running Windows 8.1. The device also comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse set, and is priced at just $140.

Hardware

This tiny PC-on-a-stick comes with a reliable Intel Atom quad core CPU, with 2GB of RAM, and 32GB storage. The CPU features Intel HD graphics that can handle HD movies, videos and some casual gaming as well. It also features multi-channel digital audio, a micro SDXC slot, a pair of USB and Micro USB ports, and of course HDMI. On the connectivity front, it comes with a built-in WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 adapter.

Mobility and Maximum Usability

While the Splendo is very light on the pocket, it is a great, secondary device that would let you work and play whenever you have a TV nearby. It’s great for document editing and checking emails as well.

However, Intel HD graphics make it a very handy little device that can run videos and movies on full HD resolution without much of a hassle, and can even handle some casual games. While it isn’t built for hardcore gaming, this is a great secondary computer that you can use when you need to get some important work done but don’t have access to your desktop PC or laptop.

Vineet Durani, Director of the Windows Business Group at Microsoft India, stated at the launch event that, “The iBall Splendo is for people who love devices and want to be connected all the time using multiple form factors. These users are tech enthusiasts who love gadgets, have access to multiple TVs at home, love the Smart TV experience, and use Windows for browsing, social networking, and multimedia consumption.”

What Makes It So Special?

The reason this small device is such a big development is because this PC-on-a-Stick at this price point makes this a fully functioning, cheap alternative to a desktop computer that anyone can buy and use. Anyone that has an HDMI-ready TV at home can turn their own TV into a PC without having to spend a lot of money on getting a new desktop or laptop computer. This little device is going to help bring computers to every household throughout the country!

Availability

The iBall Splendo will be available for sale through IT and TV retail outlets and channels by early July.
