Review: T SportLine Model 3/Y Yoke Steering Wheel

Today I am going to review a Yoke for the Tesla Model 3/Y that I paid for with my own money and installed in my 2021 Model 3 Long Range.

Look and Feel

I love it. It has greater visibility and more room, and–for me–hand placement is better and more comfortable. Everyone’s opinion will vary. If you’re a “10 & 2” person, then will take some getting used to, as there is no 10 or 2 position. But I am one that always rests mine at the bottom anyway. So, it was a very easy transition for me.

I have gotten several people who have given me a thumbs up, and when I look at them, they then point at their steering wheel and give me another thumbs up. So, I know they approve. Just the looks are great. But that’s not what this review is about. This review is about the quality of the T SportLine wheel vs. their competitors, as well as the ease of installation.

I have seen some companies (even Tesla itself) with yoke wheels for the Model S/X that on top–where a lot of people rest their hands–it will start rubbing off and show significant wear. I have not had that problem at all with my Yoke. It still looks brand new.

Installing the Yoke Steering Wheel

Now, onto the ease of installation. It took me maybe 15 minutes. You pry the front with two flathead screwdrivers at the same time on each side to release the airbag (that can be a little hassle, but I had no issue). Once it is out, there are two cables you release (Maybe 3 if you have a heated steering wheel. My model 3 does not). Then you have a 10mm bolt you release. Then you have 4 screws you undo to take out the steering wheel controls from your old wheel to transfer into the new yoke. Then you put the new yoke on–it only goes on one way. You put the 10mm bolt on and tighten it really tight. Then pop in the air bag, and that’s it quick and easy installation/modification.

Price

Now cost. I believe a Tesla yoke is around $1,000 and is only available on Model S/Y after a certain year. Basically, it is only available for models where it can be configured when purchasing a new vehicle. Then I’ve seen others for $500-$800 that are not even in as good of quality as this one. The T SportLine yoke is 549.95 USD, or you can do as I did and pay a little extra for one with carbon fiber to give it a little extra sex appeal.

The Verdict

So, in a nutshell, it is a very quick, not overly expensive upgrade to do to your vehicle.

I like the fact that mine is old enough that I still have the turn signal stocks vs. newer ones where the turn signals/horn are buttons on the yoke, which can be a little uncomfortable/confusing to use.
