Review: LG LDF5545ST Dishwasher

We don’t usually test out or review large home appliances, but I recently had an opportunity to check out the LG LDF5545ST dishwasher and I wanted to share the experience with you guys.

First, I really appreciate the quality and solid feel of the dishwasher. The racks themselves feel sturdier than most other dishwashers, and it features a sensible layout that made it easy to load and unload dishes.

The controls are responsive and well-spaced for easy reading, and the timer uses backlit LED lights that shine through pin-sized holes. When the dishwasher is off, you can barely see where the lights once glowed. An integrated handle completes the LDF5545ST’s sleek look. Overall, I found it to be a nice middle ground between hidden controls and a forward-facing layout.

The multi-part warranty is also fairly comprehensive: LG offers one year of full parts and service coverage, plus console and rack parts coverage for five years, parts coverage for the direct drive motor for 10 years, and lifetime parts coverage for the stainless steel door liner and tub.

How It Cleans

You can add all the bells and whistles in the world to a dishwasher, but it won’t matter unless it gets your dishes clean. And when it comes to the LDF5545ST, boy did it.

The Normal cycle cleaned everything almost flawlessly, only slipping up when it came to baked-on spinach. Spinach is typically the hardest of our test stains to remove, but even with some residue left behind, this LG did better than most other models in its price bracket.

Similarly, the 58-minute Turbo cycle had some trouble removing both spinach and milk, but completely removed all traces of redeposit—not usually the case for quick cycles.

But if you really have a big mess, choose Heavy Duty. In our tests, it removed all stains and left dishes completely dry. At about two and a half hours, it does take some time, but we can’t argue with the results.

The Verdict

The LG LDF5545ST dishwasher is designed well, has a quality build, runs very quiet, and does an excellent job of cleaning dishes. Overall, I give it a rating of 8.5 out of 10.
