I’m a fan of the innovative stuff Nomad comes up with. The NomadKey (formerly the CharegKey) has been a lifesaver for recharging my iPhone while out and about, but having a charging cable doesn’t do much good without a power source to charge my device from. Now, Nomad has an answer for that as well with the NomadPlus.
The NomadPlus is a 1500mAh Li-Po battery that fits compactly over the standard Apple charger that comes with the iPhone. It is only 2.75 x 1.33 x 1.10 inches and weighs a mere 2.1 oz, so you can unplug it from the wall and take it with you when you’re on the go.
It has a USB pass-through so you can continue to use your charger as you always have to charge your iOS device directly from the wall, but while it is charging your iOS device the NomadPlus is also charging itself. When fully charged, it is capable of recharging an iPhone 5sĀ from dead back to 70 percent capacity. It isn’t limited to the iPhone, though–you can use the NomadPlus to recharge just about any mobile device that has a USB charging cable.
There are portable batteries with sleeker designs that are more aesthetically pleasing, but the NomadPlus has one major advantage–you don’t have to remember to plug it in and charge it because it essentially IS the charger. Granted, you still have to remember to take it with you, but at least when you do you can be fairly sure it’s fully-charged, and if you have the NomadKey with you as well you’ll be ready to recharge anywhere you go.
The NomadPlus will be available soon for $39. You can pre-order it now on the Nomad site. I will share my first-hand experience with it, and write an actual review once I’ve had a chance to use one for a while.
Do you have a portable charger? Is it charged and ready when you need it, or do you often find that it’s either dead, or you forgot it at home because you were trying to charge it? Share your thoughts on portable chargers and this new NomadPlus in the comments.
