Disney’s Tomorrowland is coming to theaters May 22nd. From what I have seen in the trailers the movie looks like an exciting and epic vision of a fantastic sci-fi future. With the Tomorrowland theme in mind, Disney has teamed up with XPRIZE to challenge kids to imagine a better future.
A press release about the Create Tomorrowland challenge explains, “Beginning April 22, 2015, Disney’s Create Tomorrowland – XPRIZE Challenge invites kids to imagine themselves in the future and report back to the present through video, imagery or stories about one new and amazing invention or innovation they encounter, how it works, and the impact it has on the future.”
Contest participants will compete in two separate divisions. The Junior Division will be comprised of contestants 8 to 12 years old, and the Senior Division will include participants 13 to 17 years old. Submissions will be judged based on innovation, creativity, and presentation. Six winners will be selected in June. The winners will each receive a check for $3,000, a 3D printer from 3D Systems, and registration for the 2015-2016 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League competition season.
“‘Tomorrowland’ has always been a place of possibility in our parks and for the creative team behind our new film,” said Sean Bailey, President, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. “The future will be steered by the imaginations of our young people, and Disney is thrilled to work with XPRIZE to encourage and inspire the next generation of thinkers and dreamers to build the future they imagine is possible.”
All entrants must have prior consent from their parent or legal guardian in order to participate in the challenge. Official Rules and details about the Challenge are available at http://XPRIZEchallenge.org/CreateTomorrowland. Official registration and submission period starts April 22, 2015, and runs through May 17, 2015.
Share this with your kids, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. Kids have some awe inspiring ideas for how to make the world a better place. This is a chance to show the world just how those ideas might work, and possibly win big in the process.
