Review: ChargeTech Portable Power Outlet

It seems inevitable that if you are out and about you will eventually need to recharge your mobile devices or laptop. A device like the ChargeTech Portable Power Outlet comes in very handy in those cases. I recently used this product on my son’s 8th-grade trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain, where we spent 12 hours at the park and 5 hours each way–so nearly 24 hours total–and this thing was outstanding. It kept both my wife’s and my smartphones as well as some other devices charged throughout the trip.

PORTABILITY

It’s a little big, so you won’t be carrying it around in your back pocket that’s for sure. But in a backpack it’s no problem. It also comes with a pouch to carry it in if all else fails.

USABILITY

On each of our phones we got 2 full charges, and there was still about half the juice left in the battery pack. Unlike most portable chargers, this neat product even has a standard USA 3 prong outlet (It also comes with an outlet adaptor for European outlets) so you can plugin and use your laptop or any device. I’ve gotten 2 full charges out of it on my 15″ MacBook Pro Retina.

I am sure if you go camping a lot you could use it to power a television or a cooktop among other things. I am not sure how long it would power a TV, but sure would last at least for 1 meal if cooking.

It takes approximately 4-5 hours to fully charge the ChargeTech battery from completely dead to fully charge. I have used several other smaller battery packs that fit in your pocket, but you’re lucky if could fully charge one phone once with some of those. The ChargeTech Portable Power Outlet is a must for those trips to Disneyland, Disney world, Six Flags, etc and any business trips, so keep one in your suitcase.

The listed price on their site is 249 Dollars US (It is currently on sale for 185 US) which I feel is a little steep. I feel more comfortable at $100. Even with the high price, though, I give this great product a 9.5 out of 10.
